WY - A GREAT flag; would be even better without the seal. (The deer seem like they're about to do unspeakable things to the shield in the Michigan flag.)
ReplyDeleteMO - Bears beat English script every time.
IN - A real dark horse in this region (and I demand to know where the hills that Nebraska lays claim to in its seal really are, across the border in Colorado, perhaps?)
OH - The stealth 'O' really takes it up another level, making it no contest over the 16-bit graphic on Montana's flag.)

Indiana
Ohio
MI - I would vote for the buffalo, if it hadn't been branded by the state seal
ReplyDeleteIA - tough call
IN - again, torch and stars beats out a state seal every day
OH - The Obama Flag wins!
WY - I guess, though I don't like it that much.
ReplyDeleteIA - Close...
IN - "Dark horse", yea it's a good one. (also, navigatornate, there are surprisingly large and scenic hills/mountains in central/western Nebraska--though not much along I-80)
OH
Wyoming, I disagree with its status as a 1st seed, but this isn't the strongest region. I'll just have to wait for Indiana or Ohio to knock the bison out of the contest.
ReplyDeleteMissouri, this is a "hold your nose and pick" contest, so I'll go with the one that looks like the flag of Paraguay, rather than the one that looks like the flag of France.
Indiana, I'm hoping this flag will be the surprise hit of the region.
Ohio, though I'm not a huge fan. The "stealth O" is cool, but it looks too much like 4th of July bunting for my taste.
WY
ReplyDeleteIA (though I'm not keen about either in this matchup)
IN
OH
WY, but the Michigan is probably the best of a bad lot of blue/seals
ReplyDeleteIowa: Better tricolor and leasser of two busy seals.
Indiana, but I don't really get the march of dimes torch.
Ohio: Probably the winner of this bracket!
Wyoming vs. Michigan
ReplyDeleteWyoming is this close to having a good flag. Still, it beats any seal-on-blue-background flag it goes up against.
Iowa vs. Missouri
These are two very mediocre competitors. Let's see... Iowa, because although it contains the state name, plus other writing, it at least omits the complexity of a seal. Plus, the knight's helmet on Missouri's flag looks like it has a huge strand of green barbed wire running through it.
Indiana vs. Nebraska
In the 2001 NAVA state and provinces flag competition, Nebraska came in as second worst, behind the abominable 2003 Georgia flag. Since that flag has since been changed, Nebraska no qualifies for worst flag. Indiana wins, no questions asked.
Montana vs. Ohio
The Montana flag is actually quite attractive in that picture for some reason, and, as Jack Expo pointed out, the Ohio flag doesn't have much unique state symbolism beyond the whole 'X number of stars represents this' thing. Still, I could never bring myself to vote for Montana. I'll add another vote to what looks like Ohio's unanimous victory.
